Athanasia Pataka was born in Thessaloniki in 1978. She holds a Degree from the Medical School of AUTh (2001) and a Doctor’s Degree from the same university (2007). She completed her training specializing in Pulmonology at the University Pulmonology Clinic of Alexandroupolis Hospital. She received further training in Respiratory Disorders as well as sleep disorders at the Department of Sleep Medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Scotland. Her further training in sleep disorders and Pulmonology after her post-graduate training, took place at the Respiratory Failure Unit of ‘G.Papanikolaou’ General Regional Hospital, where she initially worked as a scientific consultant. In 2009 she was elected Lecturer of Pulmonology at AUTh Her clinical work focuses on Sleep Respiratory Disorders. She has presented 65 announcements at Greek and international scientific conferences and has received 3 awards. She has published articles in Greek (21) and international medical journals (13) and has participated in the authorship of the book titled “Pulmonology”, which is taught to Medical students at AUTh She is a reviewer for two scientific journals. She is a member of several scientific societies, amongst which are the European Respiratory Society, the Hellenic Sleep Research Society, the Greek Group for Interstitial Lung Diseases, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and Smoking. She is one of the first Greek Pulmonologists to have passed the European Pulmonology Examinations (HERMES) and received an award for that achievement by the Hellenic Pulmonary Society (2008). She participates in Greek and international clinical protocols, on issues concerning sleep, chronic obstructive Pulmonary Disease and smoking.
