Dionyssis Mitropoulos completed his studies at the Medical School of the University of Athens (Degree in Medicine in 1981, PhD dissertation in 1985 and residency in 1992). In 1992, he was proclaimed Fellow of the European Board of Urology. After a year's stay in the United States (MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston and Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia), he was appointed Lecturer (1993), Assistant Professor (1997), Permanent Assistant Professor (2002), Associate Professor (2004) and Regular Professor (2012). He is a member of the Board of ΕAU Guidelines Office (2001-2010), Chairman of the EAU Guidelines Office ad hoc committee for reporting complications (2010 to date) and examiner of FEBU candidates since 2003. He served as a member of the Editorial Board of 'Hellenic Urology', he is a member of the Editorial Board of 'Modern Urology' and 'ANIR' and is a reviewer of scientific papers on various national committees, Greek and international conferences, as well as (3) Greek and (8) international journals. He has received awards and scholarships from the European School of Oncology (1990 and 1991), ΕAU (EAU-AUA academic exchange programme 1997), the Hellenic Urological Association (1998), the Academy of Athens (1998), Empeirikeion Foundation (2001), 1st Prize in the 2002 Venture Entrepreneurship Contest for the 'Educational simulator of urological operations', two Prizes at the 16th Pan-Hellenic Urology Conference (2002), a Prize at the 20th EAU Conference (2006), a Patent (2005), the 'Wolfgang Mauermayer' Prize at the 58. Kongress der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur Urologie e.V. (2006), the 'C.E.Alken' Prize (2006), a Prize at the 19th Pan-Hellenic Urology Conference (2008) and a Prize at the 20th Pan-Hellenic Urology Conference (2010). He has participated in the organisation of national and international conferences, serving as secretary of the organising committee of the 17th World Congress of Endourology (1999) and the 2nd International Congress on the History of Urology (2001). He has published articles in Greek (51) and international (90) journals and has authored chapters in Greek (6) and international (1) textbooks.
