He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1986 and completed his residency in Urology at the Medical School of Tottori University in Japan. In March 1993, he received his PhD from the Medical School of Tottori University in Japan. He received a PhD from the Medical School of the University of Athens. From 1993 to 1997 he served as a Lecturer and from 1997 to 2000 as an Assistant Professor of Urology at Tottori University in Japan. He worked for 3 months at the Department of Physiology and Reproduction of the University of Kentucky, Lexington, as a Research-Instructor at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana and as an Assistant Professor at the Urology Clinic of Cornell University in New York. During his work at Cornell University, he was a Staff-Scientist of the Population Council (Rockefeller University). He served as an Associate Editor for the 'Human Reproduction' journal and as a reviewer for over 10 international journals of PubMed. He has also served as a Visiting Professor at the Urology Clinic of Tottori University in Japan. He is a member of the European Urology Scholarship Programme Board. He organised the 3rd Conference of the European Society of Andrological Urology and has served as the President of the Testicular Germ Cell Society. He has been appointed a Consultant at the Urology Clinic and at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinic of Hamad Medical Centre in Doha, Qatar. He has published over 140 papers, of which 98 appear on PubMed with over 1500 citations. Since 2001, he has served as Professor and Director of the Urology Clinic of the University of Ioannina, as President of the Experimental Surgery of the University Hospital of Ioannina since 2008 and as Vice-President of the Research Committee of the University of Ioannina since 2009.
